Wooden shaft?

I have an idea it may be stupid, but thats what forums are about with it. I was thinking of making a putter with a wooden shaft, one of these http://www.golfsmith.com/products/4225 and a leather grip.

Will a wooden shaft work for a putter, if so what wood would you recomend.

the old sticks that were made of wood were hickory. I have 2 of them. 1 is a putter and the other is a "spoon"

I have one of those heads and as luck would have it, I'm going to stick a shaft in it tomorrow and put into play soon I hope. Sorry, this has nothing to do with your wooden putter idea but I'll bet that it'll be a cool club. What might even be better though would be an 8802 style head on a wooden shaft. Good luck with your club. Simp

Thanks for the help. I'll try to find some hickory and get this thing done by summer. I appreciate the suggestions for other clubheads but I am a lefty.

I have an Otey Crisman putter with a hickory shaft, leather grip. It is a mallet type with an aluminum head and a brass insert for the hitting area.
