I went into Golfsmith to buy some new grips. My intention was to buy the Red/Black G8's. Then I picked up the Excel AVS Ai Graphite/Red. A very comfortable difference. Someone over my should said that they're not that good, that they"ll slip. I left the store confused and without shafts. Anyone have any plusses or minuses on either the G8's or the Excel? thanks

Ill let you know in about a week. Just ordered the Excel Black/REd extra firms. Ive only heard good reviews on them. I know alot of people dislike winn grips from the past. I think alot of the early products slipped bad with sweat and rain. So some have just written them off forever. I played the winn tour diamond harmony that had the v13 material and loved them so this new stuff I expect to be alot better. If you thought they felt better then thats all that matters right ? That guy over your shoulder might have not ever hit them.
I haven't tried the Excel but I did try the G8 and didn't like it. It started to wear quicker than the Winn wraps, but then again, it could be because of my grip. I tend to wear out a spot under my right thumb on all grips but the Winns wear out a lot faster on me. Yep, I know my grip has a fault and I am working on it. In fairness, some people I know love the Winns and they really do feel good at first.

I have a Winn Classic grip on my driver and I love it. I'm looking into getting some red/black G8's for my irons and wedges. I hear their a nice grip until they get wet. I guess they get really slippery. I don't play in the rain if I can help it so that won't effect me that much.
My driver came with a Winn grip. Wore out in less than a month. Installed another Winn grip, it wore out in a month also. Enough of that ****. Lamkin grips for now on. Half the price, and they last for years, not one month.

lol 2 weeks.... I played the same set of winn grips since 2003 averaged about 40 rounds a year. I am sure some models are bad but not all. Just like anything in life.
A buddy I play golf with had Winn grips on his irons (not sure of the model). He loved them, but as a lot of posters have stated, he said they became slippery and worn very quickly (yes he cleans his clubs and grips). He changed to the Lamkin dual density.
This will be the second season for the GP dual durometer midsize grips on my irons, and they're still very tacky and feel great.
Just put the grips on and they feel great. Very tacky, they also were not bad when I was cleaning solvent off them with water, they were still fairly grippy considering they just had water ran over them. They are the winn g8 AVS XF.
I must say I like the putter grip the best though it is the AI excel, that one just feels great to me.
So now let's see how the test of time treats them.
I have had a few myself and like the others I had to replace them in no time. I have just mainly stuck with the tour velvet grips. But this past time I went with Lamkin. They are nice too.
