marketing ploy to "increase distance" and profits.
same reasons why iron and wood lofts have gotten stonger over the years:
back when a pitching wedge had 50* loft, no one needed a "gap" or an '"approach" wedge.
no one needed "hybrids" either cause in circa 1950s, a 4-wood's loft (23*~25*) and length did the job when long irons were not appropriate.
me, i just want to play a "classic" game: not too much latest fad in technology, yet enough "technology" to take it easy...everyone has thier own balance point. I'd rather spend more money in lessons than in the latest wing ding clubs.
