I bought a set of Ben Hogan BH-5's back at the first of the month. When I bought the clubs the only "fitting" they did was they had me hit several balls off a lie board and then put some impact tape on the face and had me hit a few more. Basically these were the results...I was hitting the ball in the sweet spot consistantly but my impact tended to be more towards the toe of the club. On the lie board my marks also tended to be towards the toe of the club. They had me hit several other clubs with various lie angles and after doing so they basically said I was making good contact according to the impact tape but they suggested that I have the lie angle adjusted to -2* on the Hogans. Now, I'm no golf pro but after doing a little reading I understand a little more about lie angle and how it effects ball flight and accuracy so here's my question. When I address the ball with my normal stance the toe of the club is kicked up and it looks as though a -2* angle would be correct. However, since the lie board marks were consistantly towards the toe of the club, if I have the lie adjusted to -2* won't this make the toe of the club dig in even more when I swing? Do you think the guy at the golf shop got his numbers mixed up and actually meant I needed a +2 angle adjustment? In my mind if the lie board marks were towards the toe of the club then -2* would make it that much worse, right?
