broken shaft?????

Playing a normal round today, I broke, or rather, cracked the shaft of my new R5. About 5 inches up from the head, on the backside (behind the face) I have a splinter about 3/16" wide by 1" long, starting towards the head of the driver and travelling up towards the grip. My questions are these: Will this affect the play of the club much, and, what shaft is comparable to the stock R5 stiff shaft with a firm tip? I had slated my next 100$+ golf monies to my new PING putter. Thanks!!

If you continue to use the club in that condition the shaft will eventually break! I would contact Custom Golf Sales right here on this board and talk with them. There are many aftermarket shafts that are much better then your OEM shaft, and it won't cost you $100. Good luck!

Cool

Mike: you say it's your "new R5 driver. How new is "new". I mean, if it's brand new and all you did was hit a few golf balls with it, I'd think you'd want to send it back to TM and have them replace the shaft under warranty. If you drove the clubhead into the ground and broke the shaft, that's one thing, but if it's a new club and you didn't do any thing to brake the shaft, TM should stand behind it. Worth a call at least. Contact TM or the store where you got the club and see what's up.

OnePutt has a good point... This should be on the warranty of Taylormade.

But if you need us to, we can reshaft the driver with a good shaft for around $65.00 easy. (shipped)
