Cutting/Regripping Graphite Shafts

I'm gonna do this, but I don't want to do it completely blind.
I'm new to golf, and have a set of Golden Bear.
They are too long for me, so I'm going to cut them approx. one to two inches.

Can anyone give me a tip before I totally destroy my irons?

Thanks in advance.

Go to Golfworks.com and order a club repair book and read it first. Also, be careful about cutting 2 inches off your clubs, this will alter the swingweight by as much as 24 swingweights. The balance will be way off! Get fitted first, if you need to shorten them an inch, you can add lead to the shaft to restore balance, the rest can be done with a lie adjustment. Good luck.

i'd have to agree with forgedrbest, bit the bullet and take them to a club repair facility. you should be able to get everything (shaft cut, grip, lie adjusted) for around $120 or so. they will know exactly how much to take off
and adjust the lie if necessary. it will be worth every penny.

On the flip side to what the others told you, if you are definitely going to do this yourself, there are a few things we need to know first. What is your wrist to floor measurment? Stand with your heels and shoulders square against the wall and have someone measure you from your wristline to the floor. Have them measure both hands. Your wristline is the crease between your hand and your wrist. Then let us know your your height, your true height(not what you want everyone to believe). Now back to the flip side with the others. There are certain tools you will need to do this. If you dont have these tools, you could end up spending more than if you had a golf shop do the cutting for you. For instance, do you have a compressor? If you dont have a compressor to blow the grips off, then you will have to cut them off and replace them with new ones which could cost you between 25 and 50 bucks depending on which grips you get. There is then cutting the shaft. You said you have graphite shafts, you cant use a tubing cutter with them. You can use a hack saw, but you have to be careful not to splinter the shaft or you could have problems. I'm not trying to dismay you. I just want to open your eyes to what you will need. If you are still going to do this, have someone measure you and then let us know the measurements. Good luck.
