de-lofting wedges

has anyone de-lofted or had any problem getting the loft on gunmetal wedges changed (specifically the tom watson wedges). i spoke to a clubmaker about changing the loft on my new wedges and he mentioned about having problems with some gunmetal wedges.

thanks

I have wondered how changing the loft on a wedge affects bounce. It seems to me the if you deloft a wedge [bend the face more upright] bounce would be decreased and vice versa. The result may be the right loft but unsatisfactory bounce.

Changing lofts willl slightly change bounce but you should only be bending any club (other than pot metal) 2* atmost. Gunmetal wedges can be bent. It is the Big 5 specials that cant be bent due to the material. I dont think 2* will be a big factor in bounce if you have moderate bounce on the sole. If it is a small bounce from the start then you could be giving it a more sharper edge(digging sole)

the bounce on the wedges is as follows:
gw: 7
sw: 13
lw: 7

so i guess there should be no problem with the actual gunmetal being bent. want to make sure my clubs don't break during the process (i've never had any of my clubs' loft changed).

I think if the wedges are cast, they'll break. If they are forged, the metal is more malleable and can be bent easily.

Cast is fine it is just a touchy form of steel and process. POTMETAL is the one that will simply snap on you. Golfsmith has in their clubmakers section online a chart that will tell all materials that clubs are made of and how much they can be bent and which ones can't be bent and I think I remember that Potmetal is the only one now a days that cant be worked with.

yea i have a few gunmetals that I play around with. You can bend them quite a bit.

About the bounce you can actually grind the bounce to ur liking, although it takes time and effort (some club fitters just can't be bothered). You have to add some lead tape after cuz they become real light...

I had a few wedges ground to almost 0 bounce... I used them for extra hard and dry conditions and compact sand...felt great, not very forgiving tho...lol
