Shaft length question

Okay, I need my clubs .5" longer than standard. So when I install a a shaft and look at the trimming instructions, do i leave the extra half inch there? So if the trim code says tip trim 3 inches, then do I just trim 2.5" to give my extra .5" length, or do I handle that in butt trimming?

I am unsure because looking at some shaft lengths for irons, it seems they are 41" for the most part. So with a 9 iron being 36" standard length and the trim code saying tip trim 3.5" for the 9 iron. Which leaves the shaft at 37.5" after tip trimming. So I could butt trim and leave my extra half inch. But it seems odd to me, because suppose you needed 1.75 inches longer? Would you then not tip trim as far, or tip trim the same and add an extender to the end of the shaft?

Sorry if this is all jumbled up, I tried to make sense of it.

you would butt trim because tip trimming affects the stiffness and bend point (to a degree) of the shaft. you were right on as far as the extender.

Butt trim only. When you tip trim, it changes the frequency of the shaft.
