Howdy. Eversince I got my irons, they've seemed short. They are Adams Performance GT's. I'm about 6' 1"/2", and they are standard size shafts. My little bro, who works in a pro shop, was telling me that even he thinks I need longer clubs. Question is, Where Can I find Shaft Extensions, How much of an extension do I need, and is it something I could do with at home with some practice (on useless clubs), Or would I want to have a shop do it?
Also, My grips are getting pretty dirty lately. I'm afraid to use water on the grips, but I don't know what to use to clean them. What's safe for them?
You can find extenders for steel or graphite at just about any golf supply shop. Golfsmith and Golfworks are some online examples. This is something you can easily do at home if you have a vise, tube cutters or metal cut off blade for a mitre saw, a file or coarse sand paper, and 5 min epoxy from walmart. If you are going to do this, there is no need to clean your grips since you have to remove and replace them anyway. The extenders for steel shafts are double-headed, so 1 extender will do 2 shafts. I like to cut them in half before I start. Rough up the tapered part with a file, mix up some 5 min epoxy, coat the part of the extender that goes into the shaft, twist the extender into the butt of the shaft and wipe away any excess epoxy with a paper towel and some grip sol'n. You should also dryfit the extender prior to doing this. After the epoxy cures, measure and mark the extender where it needs to be cut and cut it!
Alright, Sounds easy enough! Now, will there be anything else needed? Or is it alright to be used once its dry?
One more question, How would I find out the proper length needed? I was goofing around on callawaypreowned.com, and they stated they needed the users Height, and Distance from floor to wrist (Which would be 3' 1" for me.).
according to the ping online fitter, you should take a shaft that is .25 over, but when i add and inch in both areasm it calls for ,50 over. i would say tou are on the borderline and suggest trying one at .50 over wuthuot the grip and see hoe it feels first. do everything that agoodwalkspoiledagain said, but after epoxying , tap the extender in with a hammer which makes sure you get a tight fit then turn the club upsidedown so the epoxy will stay near the extender and not run down the shaft. depending on your shaft, some extenders slide in easily (no hammer needed), others can be a little tight.
Well, I went out today. I talked to my dad, and asked for his opinion on the matter, he had me go out, grab my 5 iron, and show him my stance. Turns out I was reaching for the ball.. Fixed it today. I was hitting amazingly. I could still use that extra 1/2", but It can be delayed a while, and not hurt my game. I'm pretty excited.
That's good but you should still hit them off of a lie board to be sure the lie angles are correct. As to water hurting your grips, give them a good scrubbing with soapy water and a good nylon brush. Should clean them up and make them feel much better. Caution, if you're using Winn grips, forget the water as I don't think they recommend this for their grips. Good luck.

I'm going to be going to a Club maker in the next few weeks here, and I'll try to get on the Lie Board.
I got the OEM grips on as of right now. It looks like Shaft Extensions will wait untill winter for now, unless I get a better job. Between saving for a driver and some custom woods, Money's not going to be there this summer for extension, unless they were needed. Which they arn't.
Your money would be better spent on irons that fit you instead of a driver or custom woods. Leave the woods at home until you get your short game under control.
