Question about shafts.

Is there a difference between the driver shafts and the fairway wood shafts. I mean, other than the initial length. Can you cut down a driver shaft and how would it funtion in a 3 wood? Let's say a S flex, 46" shaft getting cut down to 43".

The Story: I just got a 3 wood on eBay and am planning to reshaft it. I'm having a hard time finding a .335" tip TT BiMatrix fairway shaft for it, so I'm exploring my options. Thanks everyone.
