For the height challenged

I'm 5'4 and the standard clubs seem way too long for me. For those who are around my height, if there is anyone here that is around my height, how long are your clubs? Usually...

I'm not much taller than you...maybe an inch and a half. I use standard length clubs. Now I wouldn't go to a 54" driver, but standard clubs are just fine.

If you use 1/2 size clubs, remember to yell "TOO" if you're in danger of hitting someone!

I am only about 5-5 to 5-6 and I agree, the standard lengths feel much too long for me. Depending on the irons you buy, you should DEFINITELY have them custom fit to your swing. My newest set, TM LT2's, were adjusted 2-degrees flat and they reduced the length by 1/2-inch. Another thing is that I have reasonably small hands. Make sure you get the grip size fitted to your hand. Those things will help make the clubs feel more perfect for you.

As far as drivers go, I am using a standard-length driver. Since they can't adjust the lie angle on drivers, you're stuck there. And taking length off the driver really affects it's performance. So my driver is probably 12-inches longer than anything else in my bag but you just have to deal with it. Find a good swing plane and make it work for you!

Taller golfers have a huge advantage. To me, my 3-iron is practically impossible to hit. It's just too long and I can NEVER seem to get the face square at impact. 4-iron is the longest club I can hit. Luckily I can hit the 4-iron about 200 yards so a 3-iron is not really necessary. I go from 4-iron to 5-wood which is good for about 215-220.

Just 1/2 inch? I thought it might be more than that. Thanks for the inputs. As part of my golf lessons plan I'm getting fitted next week so I'll update and let you know.

The smart thing to do would be to find a pro shop that is a reputable club fitter and get them to measure you. You might have to pay $20 or $25 for the fitting session, but at least you will know EXACTLY what you need in club length, lie angle and shaft flex. I did that, and it was the best money I ever spent. To heck with the silly guess work...go see a professional fitter. He'll save you a lot of frustration.

I'm 5'4" and my clubs are -1/2". But my buddy is 5'10" and his clubs are the same length because his arms are so long. Best bet would be to get fitted. Some fitters believe in adujusting lie and some don't. Mine doesn't.

I still haven't gotten my fitting done yet. It's been pushed back another 2 weeks. Since then I've learned to hit ok with the standard size clubs, but I think I can do better with proper fitting. I can't wait.
