Cutting Down Shafts

My irons are 1/2" above standard and I want to cut them down to standard. I am looking at the easiest yet most economical way. Please give feedback on my following ideas as to whether it is possible and the effects it might have on the club's playability (i.e. swingweight, stiffness, lie, etc.)

1. Remove old grips and cut down butt end. I would hate to do this because I have golf pride new decade grips still in great condition and I'm not confident in removing them in tact.

2. Remove shafts and cut down tips.

3. Remove shafts and move wedge shaft to 9 iron, 9 iron to 8 iron and so forth.

Please advise. Thanks.

Go to pro shop. Ask to have shafts cut down half an inch. Pay small amounts of money.

It will affect feel and weight slightly, but since your only cutting them down to standard length, you're not going to have any problems. Most shops should be able to retain your grips cos they can get them off without cutting them. They use some kinda air compressor thing.

If the shafts were blown on an you have a compresson handy then piece of cake. If they were taped on, well that's a cut 'em off situation from my experience. Guess removing the shafts would be an option but then you'd need to buy another shaft for your longest iron or shortest which ever the case may be and it's gonna take you a bit of time to remove the shafts and then re epoxy. Probably cheaper and quicker to cut the grips off, cut the shafts and re-grip.
