Lead Tape Questions

I've been messing around with lead tape on my putter, and added some lead tape (well quite a bit) to the toe of my putter to increase the weight, and hopefully straighten out my putts. Will adding the weight to the toe discourage a pull? Should I counter the weight with weigth on the grip?

Also, I'm considering swingweighting my irons. I don't have a swingweight scale, but someone I know does. How long does it take and how difficult is it? Also, is it even worth it?

Thanks in advance.

I just experimented with tape on my putter over the weekend & noticed i was pulling all my short putts so i've removed it & centred the tape more.I still have the extra weight i want, feels good on the carpet here @ home but i let ya know how it goes when i get on the course....weather permitting :(

If you are going to weight a putter hoping that the weight will help keep the putter on line then do it evenly across the back of the putter or evenly on the toe and heel together. But I would search out why you are pulling it. It can be mechanics. Find a line on the ground and stroke the putter over the line keeping it there. Check your shoulder alignment. When I have problems it is usually my shoulders. now for your 2nd question it does not take long time to do swingweighting. Now a little secret is to take 1 club to the driving range with the lead tape and start hitting balls. When you are warmed up add a little piece of tape on the back of the ironhead near the bottom and center. if you have hooking problems then add the tape closer to the toe and fade problems add to the heel. Keep adding a little tape until it is unconfortable to swing the club or have feel problems. Or when you are hitting some really nice shots then stop adding tape. Most pros have an idea how much their swingweight is but it was through this experience of trial and error before they went to a swingweight scale. A scale is good when you know what you want. And these guys didnt do this all in 1 day. This was through many rounds of experimenting. I still after many years using tape move my tape around depending on how I am swinging during certain periods.
