Talking Re-shafting Nike Pro Combo Utility

Hi,

I just bought a 22* Nike Pro Combo Utility Club. Nice club for a great price by the way...

I want to re-shaft it, it only came in stiff and I generally play a regular flex.
I looked up the specs and one source says it is a 0.355" tip.

My questions are:

1) does this mean a 0.355" tapered shaft?

2) does anyone have a shaft recommendation for me? I am looking for a higher ball flight than what I am getting with the stock nike speedstep (Stiff). I have a quick tempo and hit a 5 iron around 170 Y

this is a tapered tip, unfortunately, graphite shafts in this size are exremely limited. the other option is to install a .350 tip shaft. if installed correctly , will work just fine. you will then have many more options. contact christian at custom golf sales, he would be in a much better position to advise you.

thanks for the advice Mikey300!

So if I use a 0.350 tip, is there anything special I need to do to epoxy the shaft into the clubhead?

what you need to do is see how loose the tip is in the hosel, if a fairly snug fit, go ahead and epoxy, if kind of loose, put a very thin coating of epoxy on the shaft an let it dry, then lightly sand and epoxy the shaft in the head.

Thanks Michael, I'll try it sometime this week. I looked in the golfsmith catalog and using a 0.350 does open up a lot of shaft possibilities. Thanks again for the advice!

A .350 tip shaft will be loose, let me explain. a taper tip is similar to .370 tip shaft, yet tapers down to .355 at the tip.

My suggestion, get a qualified clubmaker and have them "dril out" the head to a .370 you will have many more shaft choices, it will not damage the head (if a pro does it) and it will not affect the performance, so IMO a win/win situation.
