Reshafting Cobra SS-i 7 iron

Came back from a golf weekend and found out that the stock Cobra/Aldila HM shaft is splitting at the clubhead. The Cobra website gives no contact information other than a street address in Canada, no email link or phone number. The faq says to contact your dealer. I bought these used at my local golf store and haven't talked to them yet, but assuming that they have no luck with Cobra, I am looking for my best option. I want to replace it with the stock shaft to keep the set consistent, so I was thinking about picking up a longer iron off ebay and having someone pull the head from my seven and tip trim the longer shaft to fit. Sound like a plan?

first thing to do is take it back to the shop where you purchased the clubs, they should have access to the acushnet company which is the parent compant. it may take a day or two, but they should repair under warranty as long as the club are relatively new..

Well, that would be step one for sure. I have a good relationship there, so even though they were used I know they will do what they can.

Finally heard back from Accushnet. They won't cover it under warrantee as that is only good for one year, but they will reshaft it for $60. I guess I have to go that route because it would cost more to pick up a club on ebay, pay the shipping, and then get someone to tip trim and install it. Oh, well.

No Joy in Mudville

The club came back from Acushnet yesterday. They reshafted it, but they said that they had no original shafts left, so they used a slightly heavier graphite shaft from the latest series of irons. There probably won't be much of a change in ballflight, but my resale value for the set just went into the dumper because of the mismatched shaft. I'll keep my eyes out for a replacement 7 iron, but if I can't find one, does anyone have any ideas about how best to match it up? Should I get a longer iron and tip it, or should I look for something closer like a 6 iron and then tip that?
