Shafting iron heads, +1"

Hi,
I am trying to help a friend of mine to start golf and he doesn't want to spend too much right now. He is a tall guy and standard length clubs seem to be a little short. A chart we found on the internet suggested he get a +1". It is very hard to find used clubs that are inexpensive with +1" so we are thinking about building a set of clubs.

We see a lot of clone heads on ebay for around $40 (3-pw). They are clones of Callaway and Nike. I know how to put on grips but have never try shafting.

My question is, how do I buy iron shafts? Are they come in standard lengths for 3-pw? Or they are come in same lengths and we have to cut them down to fit 3-pw? What do we need to do if we want a +1" length? Also, what kind of expoxy do we need? He is a new golfer, should we worry about frequency or weighting?
thanks,

Have you considered just getting shaft extensions? A lot cheaper.

Most shafts come longer than is needed and are then tip trimmed (sometimes) and butt trimmed to achieve the desired length. Assembling clubs is rather easy and something I enjoy doing. I'd go with true components and not clone clubs - better quality. Golfsmith and Custom Golf Sales can help you out.

A lot depends on the skill level of your friend. If he's fairly new, stick with a basic cavity back style like the Bang SF or the Tech Power MX Black Shark. If he would prefer a larger iron head, perhaps the Tech Power MX Black Shark. All of these are available from Custom Golf Sales. I belive you can get everything from them including epoxy, shafts, ferrules, grips, and grip tape.
Don't buy the ebay iron heads for $40. You're going to get what you pay for.
By combination-flex steel shafts such as TT Lite, Dynamic, Dynalite. These are all made by True Temper, but there are other brands out there that are just as good.
Also, don't buy used clubs and add extensions. That will only make the clubs feel extremely light due to the additional weight in the grip area due to the extentions.

Hope this helps you out.

Pep
