those grips usually go on very easy, unless of course you forget to peal the paper off the tape. don't laugh now! i did two sets that way before i realized that the paper pealed off. had a heck of a time.

Gent's, i have put thousands of grips on. Too many to count. Here's the basics.
1. Make sure the old grips are off first!! Ha! Ha!
2. Clean All existing tape off the shaft. If you like clean the remaining tack off with solvent.
3. Reapply 2 sided grip tape. It comes in 3/4", 1" and 2" size. At some good supply shops they even sell tape strips (2") pre cut.
Now the good part that makes it all work
4. Cap the Butt End With a peice of tape to seal the end. This will do 2 things.
a) it will help to expand the grip as you are sliding it on.
b) it will help push the excess fluid out the hole in the butt of the grip. Watch out! It will squirt pretty good unless you use a even motion not a quick one. I reuse my solution by filtering it back into the container through steel wool.

NOTE: Couple of things
1. The new compounds that are being used in todays grips do not stand up well to solvent solutions such as Lighter Fluid, Accetone Ect.. Ect.. The reason is it dries the grip out from the inside and the grips will lose life. Use a non solvent such as Brampton which is non toxic, has little to no odor and will not stain clothing.
2. There are actually some new grips out that have instructions as to what solutions shoud be used. The Torsion Control that Lamkin has out has instructions to only use Mineral Spirits ( Problem with the butt end adherring properly to the tape inside)

should not be so hard but all of us who have done re-gripping have ******* a few up-----------change to another solvent or even a cheap hair spray.

I use the same solvent and Lamkin Crosslines - I had surgery on my right wrist on Tuesday and managed to grip three clubs yesterday with my left hand only. I used to clamp the clubs down but now I just do it by the sink and hold the head of the club with my feet.

I get the solvent in the grip and use my thump to stretch the tip a little, dump the solvent, start the grip an on she goes.

I did have issues a few years ago with some old golf prides that were dry and stiff - maybe you just got some bad grips.

Just get an air-compressor. Makes it all so much easier. Grip goes on, grip comes off, grip goes on... Fun for everyone!

If you left the grip half full of solvent with a tee in the end while trying to slide it on the club there is no way that grip is going on. There is no place for the solvent to go. What was the problem? Did it get halfway on and stop or was it not sliding on from the beginning?
