Tapered shafts in parallel hosels?

I need to reshaft 3 irons, for my son, and on hand I have a set of tapered shafts of the proper fit. The Tommy Armour heads take a parallel tip shaft, however. Do any of you clubmakers out there have any experience putting taper tips in parallel hosels? Will it hold? Does it need to be shimmed? Or is it totally inadvisable to assemble them thusly?

I do it all the time using the Golfworks shim with no failures.
