Regrooving Eye 2 irons

OK, I've read all the threads regarding regrooving and I have a different question. I need to regroove my Ping Eye 2 irons and they have the square grooves. I'm assuming that I'd be better off using a tool designed for U grooves as it is closer in shape to a square groove than a V shaped tool would be. Any thoughts? Anyone ever regroove PE2 irons?

Here is an interesting guide on vintage Ping irons.

http://reviews.ebay.com/Buying-Class...00000000003314

Here is a key quote from the article.

'Regrooving is a process whereby the grooves in the club face are recut using some type of machine tool. Pings are CNC grooved at the factory. Ping does not regroove its own clubs. Regrooving makes the clubs non-conforming under USGA rules. Avoid regrooved clubs like the plague.'

You might be surprised how much your irons are worth, even in their current condition.

They are getting worn...

Thanks for the input guys - precisely why I asked first! I think I'll leave them alone, I certainly don't want to upset the golf gods.

Besides, this will give me a good reason to go iron shopping if they get too bad. Maybe some raptures.....

Cool

If the grooves are worn down and are dull, they're not much good for playing golf, and that's the only thing they were made for. So if you need to have the grooves re-cut, I'd recommend to take them to Goflsmith, and see what it would cost, and then decide what you want to do. I wouldn't recommend you trying it yourself, more likely you'd end up ruining what you have.

That eBay link is useful.

Give Ping a call and see what they say. I called them for info/work on my irons, and their service was awesome. I thought because my clubs were so old they'd barely talk to me -- and I was wrong.

Good luck!

Good article. I previously owned a set of Ping Zing 2's. I liked them and highly recommend Ping products.
