Club Question, Please Help!!!

First of all I'm new here and its nice to have a place to talk golf. I hope someone can help me with an issue I have thinking about for a while. About 6 years ago I got fitted for some Hogan Apex +s and they are very nice clubs. I played Ping eye 2's for the previous 10 years which were 2 degrees upright. I was very confused when I got fitted for my Hogans and the guy told me I needed the 2 degrees upright which I knew, but then he said I need +1.25 inches on X-100 shafts. I'm 6'1" tall and my wrist to floor is 36". A friend of mine was also along with me and also got fitted for new clubs. They (GolfUSA) recomended he have +2 inches added to his clubs and he is shorter than me. I really question if they got it right??? I cut about an inch off all my irons last year (with a shaft cutter) and the clubs really seemed to change. They seem much more stiff now and I had a hard time getting used to them again. My question is how much did I change the swing weight of the clubs??? Did I ruin my Hogans??? I feel the shafts were initially probably too stiff and too long. I still hit a nice draw so the shorter stiffer shafts really haven't seemed to hurt the ball flight too much, but the feel is awfull. Any thought or suggestions would be appreciated, Thank You...

If you shortened the club from the grip end, you havent stiffened the shaft any. You did however reduce the swingweight by six points though. The club may now have a very light swingweight reducing the feel of the clubhead.

Thanks for the imput, I've done more research on this now and it looks like the Dynamic Gold shafts are trimmed to final length on the butt end which should bring them closer to standard length. I really don't know much about club building or repairs other than regriping my own clubs so I was worried I may have ******* them up. I just need to play them and get used to clubs all over again and they should be fine. These clubs have some life left in them and I'd like to get a couple more seasons out of them. With some time on the range I'm sure I'll get adjusted back to them and the nice feel of these clubs will return.

Taking an inch off the butt end is significant for a couple of reasons, both of which will tend to make the club feel like a piece of rebar where you may have a hard time 'feeling' the clubhead. The previously poster is right, approx. 6 sw points were lost and without adding weight to the head the club will play stiffer. I know the butt end of the shaft is the stiff end, but anytime you make a torque arm shorter, the relative stiffness will increase. Because of the profile of a golf shaft, smaller amounts of butt trimming will not result in a signifant change in stiffness. However... an 1" is getting in the range where it will make a difference, which I think you are seeing now. I would suggest adding 10g or so to the heads to get your feel back.
