First time regripping. I've looked in all the local hardware stores and cant find any Double sided Masking tape. The best I can do is the double sided carpet tape. Is this an acceptable alternative. It looks like a fiberglas mesh. I was a little concerned looking at it that it may be hard to remove next time I want to regrip. Any input would be appreciated.
I'm with IronHands on this one. I've used double-sided masking tape, and I've even used spray tack (not advisable), but I'm not sure it would be a good idea to use anything you think is going to be hard to remove later.
I'm not familiar with stores in Canada, but the masking tape should be available somewhere other than a hardware store. I buy mine at WalMart. Grip solvent, I buy from Golfsmith.
Ive used the carpet tape and I dont recommend you use it. Very tough to deal with. Too sticky and not easy to remove off its roll or apply smoothly. Solvent seems to make it stickier and thus harder apply in a timely manner.
I used carpet tape the first time I installed some grips, and it didn't work real well at all. I'd recommend you buy some grip tape from Golfsmith and not fool with other kinds of tape. I use mineral spirits for solvent and it works fine and is a lot cheaper than grip solvent. Or go with air pressure and forget about tape completely.
Found some double sided craft tape at Walmart for $1.50 a roll 25' long and 3/4". Stuff worked like magic. Used mineal spirits (a lot of fumes - was wozzy for a week). The combination along with the instructions on Golfsmith.com worked like a charm. No problems at all and it only took about an two hours to do a set while I watched Golf Central.

I've always used grip solvent until I did my grandsons cut downs which I took another poster's suggestion about using WD-40 and it works like a dream. It takes very little and I just sprayed a couple of blasts down the grip with my finger over the hole as you would with grip solvent and then poured the little bit out over the tape and rubbed it to insure a full coverage then slipped the grip on quickly and voila! it was super fast but you don't want to take very much time because the WD-40 evaporates fairly quick. I checked about an hour later and the grips were definitely on tight with no slippage. Very cheap to use and one can would do a bunch of grips.
