You'll need a kit like this:

All you need to install grips with air is a blow gun with a tapered tip that fits in the grip vent hole. You can get these at Walmart. To remove grips you also need a protector tube to keep the grip from expanding too much. Grips can swell up very fast and explode with an incredible force without the tube.

http://myostrichgolf.com has the air install kit. Go into the Clubmakers entrance, click on "tools" in the left margin and look on page 3 for the grip blaster. Some people use a piece of PVC pipe or plastic "golf bag tube" as the protector. Wear eye protection and be careful.

Cool

As was posted, you don't need a special tool for this, any blow gun with a small tip will work fine. As for the tubing, I use a 12 inch piece of PVC tubing I got at the hardware store. Works great and costs less than a dollar.

I would not recommend anything besides using a vice.

Cool

The shaft needs to be solidly held in place so you can install the grip properly, If the shaft moves around, it will make it real hard to get the grip all the way on and straight. Use a vise and save yourself a lot of frustration.

There are several small vices that will bolt to your bench like a C-Clamp on the market I have one on and off my workbench that is like this.
