Heavy Putter - less weight needed- HELP!!

Greetings Everyone!

This is my first post- so be kind.

I have a problem that you experts might help me with. It pertains to my new Heavy Putter (you know, the one that weights 2 pounds!).

What I would like to do is lessen the weight under the grip (which is I think a lead piece, but I don't know).

Question: has anyone tried to do this before, and if so, how? I don't know if the lead weight is just an insert in the upper shaft, or, if it's lead that was just poured in somehow. I don't want to take off the grip just to find out that there is no way to do this.

I really like everything else about this putter and would very much like to keep it.

I could really use your builders expertise in this matter and thank you in advance.

Best Regards,
Kevin

Cool

You're going to have to remove the grip anyway to remove some weigth, so why not just do it and see what's inside? What ever the weight is, I can't see how it could be that hard to remove some of it. You could drill it out if nothing else. Be brave, and pull the grip and have a look see. It's only a putter you're talking about.

I guess you're probably right. Can a grip be taken off without cutting and replaced? If so, How is it done? I've only heard of the cutting off method.

That is a counter-balancing weight...removing it will alter the entire feel of the club and make the heavy club feel even heavier...take it in and if the shop guys can't dig out the weight just reshaft...

I am a heavy putter dealer. The weight is what makes the feel of the putter. Did you get a weight kit with it you should have. Remove the heavy weights in the putter head and replace it with the lighter ones,, this should help reduce the overall weight. Do not remove the grip and attempt to remove weight. It will drastically change the feel of the putter, I would highly recomend against it.

TO bump-n-run & rehcuob: I understand your points of view here, but you have to remember that the question was asked because this golfer doesn't like the heavy feel of the grip end of his putter. That's why he's looking to remove some of the weight from the grip.

TO Keven; Yes, you can remove the grip without cutting it. You can get a grip remover tool, or you can use air pressure to remove the grip. I've done it both ways and it's not a hard job.
