Hey guys, I'm new to this forum but I have a quick question for all of you here. I currently have a Ping ISI Tec driver that I bought new God knows how long ago. Problem is, I was a young kid when I purchased it. Now I'm 18.
It's in fantastic shape with zero scratches on it and no sky marks. Now though, I need to put a new shaft into it. It has an A-flex (Senior flex) shaft that is just a little too whippy for me.
When I hit the ball at full strength it likes to slice far, far right. However, if I just kinda swing at about 1/4 power then it'll go straight but just over 200 yards. In other words, about my 4- or 5-iron distance, depending on the day. Today though, I was 280 out from the green and decided to hit it off the deck (extremely easy to do with this club) and, sure enough, it sliced. I hit it about 270 off the deck and into the water, unfortunately.
So my question is this, what shaft should I have installed into this? It needs to be something stiff, I'd say. Some background, if it helps, I switched from Callaway X-12 irons to Mizuno MP-32 (which are amazing by the way) because I'd slice my X-12's.
If i were you i would just get a new driver, i went from a ping Tisi to a ping G2 and the diffrence is night and day. the newer clubs are more forgiving so it gives you added confidence therefore you hit more quality shots, but if youre inlove with this driver go to a local shop and get a shaft fitted for you. that way you know youre getting the shaft that is right for you.
That's a good idea, although I don't think I can spend ~ $500 on a new driver right now. I think a new shaft for ~ $150 or so would do the trick. I've hit a Ping G2 before, and although they're nice, it'd be hard to give it up. When I get back to KC I'll go ahead and tell you what I end up doing.
Well, I looked on eBay, went to Golf Discount and Robin Nigro's and look at stuff there. I hit a Titleist 905 and a Mizuno driver at Golf Discount, neither of which I was too impressed. At Nigro's I got my swing speed taken. It averaged about 110-115. I carried my ISI Tec only 215, according to to the machine. Then we looked at the Alidia NV on an 11 degree Callaway Fusion driver. I consistantly carried 250 with a swing speed of about 110. Even on mishits, it still went straight.
This is the problem though. The shaft is $105 and I have to send it back to Ping to have my club reshafted because of the placement of the hosel, which could be up to another $100 without calling Ping for a price. The guy that fit me for my MP-32s recommends I try a Taylor Made R-7 with the weights or the new Callaway driver. What are all your opinions? Cash is going to be somewhat limited but if it needs to be done then it'll be done I guess.
If you've got a 110 mph swing speed, and are only carrying 215 yards, throw that driver away. Something is wrong with it. It's time for a new driver.
If you want a good driver, and don't want to break the bank. Check rockbottomgolf.com, and see what their current price is on a TaylorMade R580XD, or r5 dual. You should be able to get one for $150 or less. They're long, and a lot more forgiving than your old Ping.
Thanks for the website! It seems have a lot of good prices and clubs on there.
Btw, that machine seems to be a bit off. When I hit my 3-iron off the deck, it carried 230 yards which is a bit much. I did get a hold of it though... Either way, my Ping isn't worth reshafting. I can only get $30 for a trade-in, but they'll turn around and sell it for $100.
My swing speed with my rapture is around 110 and i get around 270-275 carry and around 20-25 yards of roll when i hit it right. I figured you would be getting more distance then that.
