I am in the market for Project-X Rifle shafts, and I am unsure if I should be hitting a 5.5 or a 6.0.
I currently use a TT Dynamic Gold S300 shaft for my irons, and a local fitter said I should be a 6.0 with my 85MPH 6-iron swing speed.
Another question I have is, what happens to my shots if I use a shaft that is too stiff for me?
Good choice of shafts. I like them. I have a set of MP-37's with the Rifle 6.5 in them. The 6.0 and the 6.5 are both considered to be a stiff flex.
I would definitely go with the 6.0. If you go with too stiff a shaft, you will have a bit more control, but you will lose distance and lose a few shots to the right, as the shaft does not kick as much.
Check out the new Project X Flighted shafts too. They are a few dollars more but I think they are well worth it. At the price of them, what's $15 more for a set of 8?

Thank you.
My swing speed is roughly the same. IMHO I think 6.0 is too stiff for 85 mph ss. I received this info from a Rifle rep:
4.5 = R
5.0 = R+ (firm)
5.5 = S
6.0 = S+
6.5 = X
He went on to say, without seeing my swing, that 4.5 regular Rifle shaft would be good (don't need Project X).
If the shaft is too stiff you'll hit the ball lower and could hook it. I am tall and require +1's on my irons. My fitter fit me for the 4.5 rifle, which he said would be a 5.1 with the added inch in the shaft. I have a tendency to hit the ball very high, so I'm hoping this will bring my ball flight down. I pick my clubs up Wednesday. Also, my fitter fitted me for the regular Rifles. "You don't need Project X." He has a very good reputation and could have easily sold me the Project X's (and made a lot more money), but he fit me for what he felt was best for my game. He and the Rifle rep were on the same page.

Please explain this to me. Last time I talked to a club fitter, going with a longer shaft than normal will make the shaft play softer, not stiffer. Going by that, if you use a 4.5 shaft and make the clubs an inch longer, you should end up with more like a 4.0 flex, not a 5.1. Did you mean to type that you went with 5.5 shafts, and being an inch longer, they play as a 5.1 ? That I could believe.

That could be, OnePutt. I recently got out of the hospital and been having my memory problems (just ask my wife!).
In any case, I am certainly no expert, but 6.0 sounds kind of stiff for an 85 mph ss.
