Did I buy the wrong 2 sided tape?

Hi guys,

I've been reading through the forums about regripping clubs and so today I ordered a bunch of new grips, then went out to buy all the tools I need to do the job myself.
I bought a knife, hook blades, mineral spirits & 2 sided tape all for $15, but am slightly concerned with the tape that I bought.
I couldn't find 2 sided masking tape at either Home Depot, the local Mum & Dad hardware store, nor at the local (reasonably large) art supplies store, so I just bought some transparent 2 sided tape for $2.
I don't really think that there will be a problem with applying the grips using this tape, I am guessing that the glue used would be almost identical to other grip tapes, but I wanted to check if anyone had ever used a tape of this kind before.
FYI, here is a link to the tape I am using, there's not much information, but hey...they have a website :)

Link to tape

Cheers guys,

Pat.

Re: Did I buy the wrong 2 sided tape?

From the point of the grips coming loose, I don't think it'll hurt anything. From the point of the grips seating properly on the shaft, I'm not so sure. I would be concerned that the tape (being plastic) might keep the grip from being completely round if there is a high spot where it's applied. I've never had that kind of problem with double-sided masking tape because it's made of paper, and is easily pushed flat by the grip.

Not exactly sure about the tape. The real tape just gets slick when the solvent is applied. So the tape really doesn't adhere the grip to the club. Once the solvent evaporates the tape isn't sticky at all. So as long as you can slide on the grip you will be ok. I don't know if the mineral spirits will dissolve that tape though. You might end up with goo. You could pour some spirits on a strip of tape and see if it gets slick or not before you try it. Or just buy some of the real deal, it is really not that expensive.

I tested that the tape gets slick with the spirits, and it does...it gets very slick, so thats handy to know.
The tape is a little hard to work with though, I might just pay the extra few dollars and buy some proper tape.

Cheers,

Pat.

I dont use 2 sided tape at all. I just use regular masking tape. I used to use the 2 sided tape and it was more of a hassle. If you insist on using the two sided tape, there is carpet tape at Home Depot that will suffice.
