Cutting Graphite Shafts to Length

I have buitls many sets of Irons with steel shafts, but now I am doing my first with Graphite. I am building a set for my dad, who plays 1" over standard with steel shafts.
My question is I have read that Graphite shafted irons need to be 1/2" over standard because of weight. So does that mean for my dad I need to make them 1-1/2" over standard or just the normal 1"?

Cool Re: Cutting Graphite Shafts to Length

graphite shaft irons are 1/2 incher to get the swing weight back up to standard. If you are making the clubs 1 inch longer to fit your dad, you might not need the extra 1/2 inch. Why not build one club 1 inch longer and see how it goes? If you then think it needs to be 1-1/2 inch longer, pull that shaft and use it for a shorter club in the set. You could build a 7 iron, and if you decide you go longer, pull the shaft and use it for the 8 iron instead. Or build the club 1-1/2 inches longer than norm, and if it's too long, just cut it down that 1/2 inch. Either way would be better than building the whole set and having to re-do them all.
