Yeah keep them as clean as possible for sure, but even that won't keep them looking brand new for very long. The key to my process isn't the polishing, it is the wax. Synthetic car wax gives you a layer of protection and makes them very easy to clean. With no protection, stains and dirt will adhere directly to the club, and the finish can be scratched and/or damaged when you clean them (moreso on the tops of woods).
If anyone is interested, I would be willing to make a short tutorial vid showing the process and products I use.
And bjterry is right on when he says to leave the hitting areas alone, especially if you use a power buffer.
