component manufactures

hey, i was just wondering which manufacturers produce the highest quality components for clubmakers. after looking online i was frustrated by the ammount of "knock offs" and "clone" components. i was hoping an experienced clubmaker could produce a list of the finest components available.

thanks alot

Re: component manufactures

KZG, Wishon, Alpha... There's a really long list. I'll let those more in-the-know than I am handle most of this one.

Couple more to add to your list:
Ashton
SMT
Infiniti
Bang
Geek
Sure there are others, but these come to mind...

Re: component manufactures

KZG won't sell to "hobbyists". To them, unless you have a retail store, you're not a clubmaker.

Wishon is at the top of my list. Golfsmith and Golfworks have some pretty good stuff as well.

Cool Re: component manufactures

I'd vote for Golfsmith. But really, what's wrong with some of the clones out there? I've built a few sets of irons with heads from CSG Golf, the LX2's to be exact, and they make for a great set of X-16 irons at a lot less money. Quality is just as good as Callaway in my opinion.

You can (sometimes) get KZG components through eBay though. That's why I included them. (See the sig. I've got 2 more of the 13* heads, and 1 of the 15* heads for when I get old. Finding a 3 wood that I really loved took awhile, so I plan on keeping a Maraging Power in the bag for years to come.)

Re: component manufactures

how do all of these component clubs REALLY compare to the top OEM brands? i have found some clubheads that appear to be real nice, but honestly...would i be doing myself a disservice if i chose them over the titleist's or the ping's or any other top brand? sorry to seem closeminded, i am new to clubmaking and just want to make sure its worth it, ya know?
thanks very much

Re: component manufactures

We carry both OEM but primarilly component product....

there is a wide spectrum of quality on both sides...in other words theres some great component companies out there and really ones...as is really well made and quality oriented OEMS...and a few OEMs that are rubbish.

And do NOT let price of the components sway you in thinking they're better based on price...some of the very best designed and produced component companies are also some of the less expensive.

Re: component manufactures

The SnakeEyes 600C irons are a good match to the Mizuno MP-30 irons. Looking at both from the front, looking at the club face, I can't tell them apart. The cavity in the back is a different shape, but about the same size, so they should play pretty close. I have a set and they're quite a good set of irons. As an added bonus, you can mix and match a set to suit the way you play, Short irons can be the blades,600B. mid irons can be cavity backs, 600C, and the long irons can be over size cavity backs, 600XC. Plus you can get only the irons you want. No need to get a 3 and 4 iron if you never use them. That alone can save you a lot of wasted money.

Re: component manufactures

Diamond Tour (The Best in Clone Golf Clubs, Components and Accessories - Diamond Tour Golf) makes some very good quality clone heads. I really don't bother with anything but OEM, currently. But, I had my best luck with their products. They also offer SMT, Wishon, Ashton, Infiniti and all the high-end component clubs.

Obviously, Golfsmith makes quality products, but they're getting expensive for their better clubs.

Re: component manufactures

Just an observation, but remembering when I built my first set, I screwed them up so royal that they were almost unplayable.

You might want to jump on ebay and get a really cheap set of components to practice on for your first set. You might get lucky and find fall into a really nice clone, but at least you won't fell like a fool when your 5iron comes out shorter than you pitching wedge ....
