Regular to Firm Flex Taper Tip Graphite

Hi Due to an injury I have the need to change to graphite shafts. I have a new set of Hogan Apex taper tip shafts that are regular flex. I really need a firm flex just under stiff. Could I tip these and for example tip trim the 9iron shaft and place it in the PW and butt cut to playing length. Or since graphite are 1/2 longer just butt cut and add weight to bring to desired swing weight? Thanks

I would take these to a clubmaker to assure they will be done frequency matched/sloped appropriately.

No. You can not tip trim taper tips. The will not fit the head because the tip diameter will now be too big. You have little choice in graphite iron shafts with .355 taper tips. I believe Grafalloy makes the ProLaunch in a TT and Graphite Design has the GD 85. There may be some others, but not many. The other option is to have a clubmaker bore the heads to take .370 shafts, then you have more to choose from. However, MAKE SURE the guy knows what he's doing before you give him your stuff. He needs to have done this job before and should be able to provide you with references.

The previous poster is right, its not a good idea to tip tapered shafts. Your only option would be is to hard step them by inserting the 4i shaft into the 3i, the 5i shaft into the 4i, etc and so on. Obviously, the problem with this is you'll be short one shaft for your wedge...unless your set of graphite shafts came with an extra wedge shaft that you could stick in the PW.
