Yes, it is beneficial to sharpen the blades. Grooves wear down, no matter what brand and type of metal used. Some wear quicker than others.
I use this regrooving tool . . .
Golfsmith.com: Golfsmith Deluxe Scoreline Regrooving Tool - Golfsmith . The blades put a sharp edge on the grooves and you can really tell the difference between worn to sharp edges. The ball bites much better.
The kit comes with a triangle blade for v-squares and square blades for u-grooves. The blades attach to a screwdriver type handle. Sharpening the grooves is easy to do after you get the hang of it. Just slide lightly... the blade will edge in on its own.
Pic of the kit. It's worth the price. I'm still on the same blade wheel and I've gone through four or five sets of wedges... PW's, GW's, SW's & LW's. The blades are still have a lot of life left.
