TRUE GRIT
I don't like changing my grips, so my caddie, Joe LaCava, sands my old ones down with 220-grit sandpaper. You should try it if you've got shiny grips.
It is simply to rough them up to get more 'hold' on the club, I think. (Fred Couples doesn't use a glove) I have done it myself, and it works.

in between regrips, you can use sandpaper to "rough them up". when they get shiny enough that you have to squeeze a bit more to hold on to them, try this out as a temporary fix before re-gripping.

Would you use a fine sand paper to do it?

It seems like Fred uses some fine sandpaper (220 grit). I just took a look at what I used: 60 grit, much coarser.

I use 200 something grit, keeps the grips tacky...keep a sheet in both my game and practice bags...extends the life of the grips and keeps the feel consistent...

Re: Gritting your grips?
It removes the dirt and oil from the grip, renewing its tackiness. Sand paper is not needed for this. I use my club brush with soap and water to make them sticky again. Often times grips are removed before their time is up, if people would just clean them then they would get more life out of them.
