Post reshaft tour edge geomax driver

Hi
I'm new to this forum and I live in the UK ( thats the bad news over)

I have a problem reshafting a tour edge geomax driver . I brought this driver a few months ago and hit it well but the other day I had an unfortunate accident in the garage (as you do) and snapped the shaft of the driver. But I snapped it flush with the hosel( don't ask how but the door got in the way).
As this left nothing to grip I had to resort to drilling the hosel out and I cleaned it out to the bottom where I could see bare metal and no trace of epoxy but and here is my problem the hosel is less than an inch deep.
I've reshafted and assembled many clubs before but these have always had a far deeper hosel Am I missing something with the geomax do I need to drill deeper or is this depth acceptable.
Any comments or advice will be greatfully received
Thanks in advance

What you encountered is a plug weight in the hosel...it can be removed relatively easily...

First thing I'd do is heat up the hosel, then turn the head upside down and tap the hosel on a table top till the weight pops out.

Let me know if that doesn't work....

Re: reshaft tour edge geomax driver

Hi
Thanks for the info. Just a short question.
When you say plug do you mean a tip weight that fits into the tip of the shaft or does the shaft only enter the hosel as far as the top of the plug. And if its a plug then I do not have to remove it to reshaft or do I ?
Sorry for the confusion
Thanks

Without seeing it, I'm speculating it was originally inserted inside the shaft and was lft behind in the extraction.

It needs to come out.

When you drilled out the broken section on shaft, if it was a weight inside the shaft tip, it would have been drilled out at the same time. This tells me it's not a swing weight piece of lead that was inserted inside the shaft. It has to be part of the head itself. You might want to contact the OEM and ask about this. Good luck with your new shaft, and stay out of the garage after this.

Re: reshaft tour edge geomax driver

Hi
Thanks for all the information.
After giving the matter much thought I have resolved the problem and found that it was a swing weight but made of brass. I drilled a small hole in the brass and managed to use a easy out to remove it. i reshafted the driver using the swing weight back in the shaft and it goes well (for me ) all I want now is another 50 yards in lengh ( but I can dream)
Once again thanks for all the assistance.

Re: reshaft tour edge geomax driver

Glad to hear you were able to find a solution.

If you ever did run into this problem again a good way to get it out is to heat the hosel where the tip weight is as if you were heating it to remove a shaft. When your done take a drill bit that is almost the same size as the hosel in width, put it down on the weight and press firmly. If you have a speed Drill you would want to slowly pull the triger. In most cases the bit will grab on to the weight and break the epoxy seal and loosen the weight and now you can tap it on the table to force the weight out.

On a side note the Geomax driver is pretty nice...

Re: reshaft tour edge geomax driver

a little late now...... I would have contacted Tour Edge & see if they could have replaced it. Otherwise, Ebay is always cheap. I wouldn't plunk down 1/2 the cost of the club for a new shaft when a replacement could be found cheap.
