Persimmon Dunlop Bob Charles 3-Wood (Lefty)

Hello, all. Very interesting forum.

To the point, a goodly portion of the insert on the above mentioned club popped out yesterday when I was hitting a few balls at the driving range. The repair service at my club doesn't extend to wooden clubs and as I'm loathe to bin it, I thought I might have a go at repairing the club myself. The thing is, what's left of the old insert is very solid and difficult to remove. Could anyone assist me in the best way to soften the epoxy resin? Thank you.

I don't know how to fix Persimmon woods, but you can contact either of these companies...

Persimmon Golf U.K. . . .
Buy new persimmon golf clubs - persimmon drivers & persimmon fairway woods

or

Louisville Golf, U.S.A. . . .
Louisville Golf : Louisville Golf Club Company, Persimmon Drivers, Niblick Fairway Woods, Putters, Irons, Logo Engraving on Putters

They may be able to assist you.

Take it to a 'machine shop" and have the epoxy removed on a milling machine. That's what I'd do. Then get some new epoxy, and pour it in the hole where the old epoxy was, and when it's cured, machine the face of the epoxy smooth as new. Use 24 hour epoxy, and it should work fine.

Thanks for the responses, guys. Rather than have a bash, I have decided to lug it around all the pro shops in the area until one of them takes on the job, it's such a beautiful looking club and I'm too much of a clumsy oaf to be hacking away at it.

Picked up a temporary replacement 3-wood for ten quid out of the bargain box this afternoon. It's a Progen Full Bore Tungsten-ST with a Full Bore Filament Wound R flex shaft, whatever one of those are. Hey, arrow straight with 200 yards carry, don;t knock it

With a hack saw, cut the depth of the insert on both sides. Then, take a chisel and lightly tap it with a hammer on the crown. It will just pop out.
