Need tipping Advice for Driver shaft

Hi,
I love the Aldila HM 2000 tour shaft 85 gr. I use them in all my fairway woods and hybrids. I was able 2 get 3 more of these from the Aldila rep.The HM 2000 and the tour gold have a small following still on the tour.
I would like to install one in my spare driver Cleveland Ti 460. I currently play with a 10.5* 460 . I was able to pick up an 11.5 cleveland head and was wondering if I trimmed 1/2 to 1in off the HM2000 shaft would this lower the ball flight and make it similar to the 10.5 *
Just playing mad scientist and would like some imput Thanks

Re: Need tipping Advice for Driver shaft

I just checked the Aldila web site and those shafts are butt trim only to length for normal driver use.

If you did tip trim it then it would stiffen the tip a bit and probably lower the launch a bit too. I didn't find any profile data on that shaft so it's hard to tell whether it will change the launch characteristics of the shaft much. Usually 1/2" trim doesn't have a lot of effect on either stiffness or flex point but it all depends on the particular shaft.

If it was a lower launch that I was after I would tee the ball lower...tipping changes way too many things if you are already happy with the performance...kickpoints, flex, torque...all of it will be altered a bit...not saying it wouldn't work, only that if you teed the ball lower / and or put your hands a bit ahead of the ball at impact (or at least ahead of where you have them at impact currently) you could realize the same results without having your swing feel different...

Re: Need tipping Advice for Driver shaft

Tipping the shaft will actually lower the kickpoint and offer a slightly higher launch BUT this will also stiffen up the shaft alot so it will be harder to promote a higher launch rather then a mid launch with low spin.

So the answer I would give is... if you want to lower your spin rate and stiffen the tip up a touch then YES but if your only after a lower launch then you need to look at a different loft in your driver or a different shaft.

Hope this helps and let me know if you have anymore questions.
