Iron Shaft replacement

Hi
I bent my shaft in my 5 iron the shaft is a Hogan apex 5. Theses shafts are hard to find. I was wondering if I could use the shaft from my 1 iron and just cut it down. I know they are .355 taper tip shafts. Any Help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Re: Iron Shaft replacement

stowe,
I'm certain it could be done.
Some of the older Hogan models have pin in the hosel.
It might not be a bad idea to have a club fitter do it for you for about $15, since the shaft is hard to come by.
Not sure if Hogan ( Callaway ) is still servicing their club and if they have inventory on the shaft in stock.. I know Hogan would want consumer to go through a dealer to have work done, maybe you could check with your local dealer.

Re: Iron Shaft replacement

Getting the club reshafted by a dealer will be slightly more expensive than $15. The Hogan shaft alone will cost at minimum $15, plus a grip (couple bucks), plus labor ($10 or so). If it has to go back to Hogan, through a pro shop, it can cost as much as $75 (yes, it sounds ridiculous for a steel shaft, but I have seen it at the shop I work at).

I sent a Taylor Made Rescue TP back to Taylor Made for a reshaft (Steel, Dynamic Gold, nothing exotic) and they charged the shop $75.

Stick your 1-iron shaft in and cut from the butt.

Re: Iron Shaft replacement

The heads are not pinned, I have changed many shafts so that wont be a problem I was just wondering about kick point and so forth I know taper shafts are butt cut only.

As far as I know it, Hogan's sets are frequency matched, in your case to have the one iron shaft trimmed to be installed into a 5 iron should be doable.
I believe any experienced fitter with the proper equipment should be able to do this for you.
I asked my guy, and he said no problem even with the pin in the hosel.
It should not cost you $75 to have this done.
Pulling the shaft from both ($6-$10), frequency match the shaft to the rest of the set ($10-$15),
trim the shaft reinsytalled ($6) with grip ($3-$8).
Your local guy might charge a bit less or more depending on the market there.
