i just finished putting together my first golf club. i ordered the dark wedge kit from golf smith. everything went smoothly, took my time abrading the shaft tip and inside the hosel. the kit came with a little packet of quick dry epoxy. after assembly i checked the left over mixture for hardness just like the video said too. and it came out fine. the shaft has been cut to proper length and grip installed. just wondering how long should i really wait before i hit golf balls with it. should i let the club dryout for a little while longer?
I've replaced a broken shaft and used the club an hour later. Most epoxy used to call for 24 hour full cure time but I didn't have any problem. Some of the newer adhesives may cure a lot faster. There should be something said in the instructions about how long before you can hit it.
nothing in th instructions on how long to wait before hitting the club. but the epoxy packet says 3-5 min work time at 75* F. maybe i'll just wait a day just to be sure. im excited and nervous at the same time. excited about a new wedge, but nervous about the wedge falling apart on me.
The epoxy should be marked for a cure time. Every epoxy I've ever used came with a stated cure time. Quick set should be usable within 6 hours or less, could be as little as an hour.
ok, i got another question. i've been using the wedge that i assembled and so far it working out just beautifully. but today i noticed when i was holding the club by the head and grip it will make a creaking noise if i give a little twist. i tried to pull the head off with my hands but it wont budge. i left it in the bag for the rest of the day. just didn't want to take a chance of it breaking. does any one know why it's making this noise?
i did some research on this. it might be that the shaft and hosel might not be coated with epoxy all around. the creaking sound is coming from the head. i'm going to pull the head and prep the shaft and hosel and assemble again. this time with some shafting beads.
Make sure you use enough epoxy that some come out of the hosel when you assemble the club. That should solve any problems with not having enough epoxy all the way around the shaft. Good luck with it.
