[quote=But I don't use air for installing a putter grip, as I want to be able to twist the grip as needed to make sure it's perfectly staight. That's a lot harder with an air compressor.[/QUOTE]
Huh? The compressor makes it much easier to adjust the grip. A burst of air, switch it, another, switch again with no worry of solvent drying up.

What you are saying is very true, it's very easy to move the grip using air. It's just not very easy to get a putter grip PERFECTLY STRAIGHT using air, as it's very easy to twist it TOO Much. I built custom putters and have installed hundred of putter grips, and I never use air for installing the grips on my putters. On other clubs yes, but not for a putter.
WOW i used air for the first time today to put some new grips on a friends clubs - i never figured it could get much easier but it did! I did the whole set in 10-15 minutes.. i tired to do a putter but yeah its way to hard to fine tune to get it just straight.. Love hte compressor though!!

i would but i need to get my putter shortened about an inch.
I just Crosslined my irons tonight without a vise, just secured them in the corner of our bathroom after dumping the solvent over a little trash can. No problems at all, it was great. I can't wait to take them out tomorrow.
Have an undate on useing compressed air. I installed grips on 3 fairway woods and a driver 2 weeks ago for myself. I used masking tape to make the diameter of the finished club the same as it would be if using grip tape. Blew on the grips and all seemed fine. Now after hitting range balls for two session, I'm noticing that all 4 grips have twisted on the shafts. So much for staying put. So off they come, off with the masking tape, and back to using grip tape and solvent. At the range, I was able to twist the grips straight again, so I know this is not something that happened right after I installed the grip, it's still happening after 2 weeks.
My irons are the old Golwin AVDP's that they don't make any more. The butt ends of the shafts are oversized so you don't use the slip on grips . . . you actually use a true wrap: start at the top and wrap it around the shaft. Just did it this summer and I found a guy on ebay who sold them so I bought enough for 3 more grip changes (hopefully that will be enough before I want to buy new clubs!).
A golf store. I used to do it myself, too, and think I was a toughguy for doing it myself, then I took them to the golf shop and they blow them on, entire set done in 10 minutes. It's like changing my oil - I can, but for $20, why bother?
