whats the best way to regrip a putter? how do you guys . get it perfectly straight?
When I regripped my wifes old putter a couple of years ago, I marked the center of the shaft with a Sharpie right below the old grip. I then marked the bottom of the new grip, dead center, with a tiny tick mark so that when I slipped the grip on I was able to easily line up the marks. I did it all by eye, which came out as perfect as my eye could see. I also had my wife and son check to make sure the flat part of the grip was visually dead center all the way to the clubhead. It was.
If you feel you need it any more perfect than that, you might want to get a shop to do it for you. I do all my re-gripping by eye, without the use of a vice. I'm pretty good at it. The slippery smoothness of the WD40 helps with lining up the grip. It gives me plenty of time to make it eyeball perfect.
I use plenty of solvent, and slide the grip on as straight as I can, Then double check it and adjust as needed. I set the club down like I would if I was putting, and look at the grip to make sure it's lined up straight with no twisting at all. With plenty of solvent, you should have a few minutes to adjust it if you need to.
Thanks guys! I really appreciate all of the insight, and interesting ideas. I really think my biggest problem was that I just wasn't using enough solvent on the clubs, which is stupid considering the price of solvent. Thanks again guys.

That help any?
i do all my wedges, irons, and anything thats not graphite, but if its graphite or a putter,
nicklas lt; Why don't you regrip graphite shaft clubs or a putter. All you need to do a graphite shaft club is a hook tip blade, and those only cost a few dollars at most. After seeing how some golf shops install grips, I know I can do it better than half of them and as well as any of them. Also faster and cheaper to boot.
You just have to be careful when you remove the grip. If you don't have an air compressor, you'll need to gently slice the grip along the length of the shaft... a few light slices will do. You don't need to cut it all the way to the shaft... you can slice it just enough so you can use your fingers to peel the grip back. Make sure you have double-sided tape on hand.
If you don't have full confidence, ask your old man, or one of your buddies to help out. Oh, and be careful with that knife. You don't want any blood on your new grip! You need to play the next day!
I've regipped a fair share of golf clubs, but lately I've found I have difficulty doing it. I sometimes get the grip stuck before I can push it down and the solvent drives, and then I'm F*****. What do you guys do or recommend for regripping?
I use an air compressor with a trigger valve and brass step nozzle, clean and dip shaft grip end and new grip in a little water and start on shaft about 1/4" then put hand around new grip just above shaft and squeeze trigger slightly while pushing it down -I've done it for 3 years and couple hundred shafts and it sure beats the old way.

But that is just it if you do hundered of shafts sure it is the way to go.
But If you regrip every year or two, it dosen't pay to get a compressor and all that when for 13 clubs a bit of tape and solvent will do.
