Hi guys, anyone have experience with these shafts? A friend told me that DGSL R300 would equal to an NSPRO 950 stiff flex, since japanese shafts are softer than US shafts?...is this true?
I'm not talking about performance, bend points or anything, just flex....
I do not have experience other than second hand with the dgsl shafts, but have heard that they feel and play about as stiff as their dynamic gold counterparts...nippon shafts I have tried, and while they are not "soft", their dynamic is very different...TT shafts are stiffer in different areas than the nippons, and thus perform and feel different...commonly, many experience a higher ballflight and more spin with the nippons...they have legions of fans and are great shafts for the right person, but as far as is a stiff a stiff is a stiff from manufacturer to manufacturer...no, it isn't...but neither is the entire design similar, so I reccomend getting your hands on one, even if it means shafting up an old club or 6 iron used demo with a nippon 750, 850,950, 1050 or 1150 (not just one nspro out there bud) and seeing what the shaft does in your hands...couple that with suggestions from a professional fitter and you'll know what you're getting into...
FWIW, it is more of a "swingers" shaft and feels very smooth when you stay within yourself...if you try to force it and hit at the ball, these shafts don't perform as well...
Thanks bump n run...actually I'm playing the nippon 950 S right now....
the points that you mentioned are precisely why I am looking at the DGSL, I'm more of a hitter than a swinger...and I hit the ball really high with the nippons I really sky it...
I think I should go DGSL R300 I'm guessing this has similar flex to the Stiff of the nippon 950s than the DGSL S300...I'm thinking the DGSL S300 will be too stiff for me already....
my swing speed is around 95mph....my 7 iron carries 145-150 yards...
Regular ought to do you just fine in the DGSL...ss and carry distances aren't absolute determiners, but I play about the same with r300 as I do project x 6.0 (a much stiffer shaft)...more about feeling than anything...good luck!
Thanks B-N-R! I hope the DGSL R300 will work for me, I really like a light shaft but sturdy and I like to put all the weight (lead tape) on the head, I can feel it more, instead of a heavy shaft with the weight spread throughout the club....i'm going to go for it!
Since that shaft doesn't come in sets, but rather individual shafts, why not re-shaft one of your irons first. This will let you compare ball flight and stiffness without re-shafting your whole set of irons. This make a lot more sense to me than doing the whole set and then decideing you got the wrong flex in all the shafts.
As for your 7 iron distance and speed, I'd say an R flex would be fine for you. I play R flex in my TT shaft irons, and I hit my 7 iron 180 carry. Swint speed with my driver is 107 or so. I hope this help a little.
Thanks oneputt...I also have a DGS300 and I'm kinda thinking about using it too but I will definitely softstep them...I was set on using the DGSLR300 until I dry fitted them and noticed that it was 1/4" - 1/2" (will be checking again later) short plus I read that heavier shafts are better for quick tempo players (which I am)...so I am now considering the DGS300, flex will be an issue but I've played with them before and it didn't bother me...oh man, this is getting very confusing
Flex for your iron shaft can be over rated in my book. When I built my first set of irons, I fould a chart with recommended flex going by swing speed or distance. It said that if you use a 9 iron for your 150 yard approach shot, you need a X flex shaft in your irons. Well, I happen to hit my 9 iron 150 carry, so I got X flex TT shaft for my irons. And I was very happy with those irons, and very accurate. Then I had a fitting on a ShaftLab, and the recommended flex for my swing was on the border of A flex and R flex. After hitting some balls with each, I found I was much more consistant and straight with R flex. So now I play R flex in my irons, and I'm quite happy with my last set of R flex irons. I hit both sets of irons the same distance and about the same in terms of accuracy. The only big difference is I hit the R flex set higher than I hit the X flex set. My current set of irons have Project X flighted shafts. Flex is 5.0
Thanks oneputt...i finally decided to go with soft stepped DGS300...the DGSLR300 pulls I have is too short, I think the bore depth of my new heads are deeper than the ones these shafts were pulled from...
so far so good, I can feel the club better (heavier shaft and I put some tape on the head too) I think I am loading the softstepped DGs well I can feel the shaft bend a little bit on contact, which I rarely felt with my previous NSPRO stiffs, I think they are about the same distance as my previous set, the difference in yardage is because of the difference in lofts (I think) my new set is 1 club weaker than my old set (ex. 9 iron loft in the new is PW loft in the old)
DGS300s are not so harsh like most are saying, in fact I never felt swings these good in a long time (maybe heads have to do something with that too, but overall contact feels better).

There is a reason why they are so popular...glad it's working out for you...
MAOP99; If you don't mind, would you please send me a PM with the lenghs of all the DGSL pulls you have. I'm working on an idea for a set of irons, and your pulls might just fit the bill for what I'm working on. Also. some heads come with longer hosels and that could be the problem you are seeing with your heads and the pulls. Thanks in advance for your assistance.
DON
Hi Don, sorry for the super late reply, I was out of circulation for some time...Ok I'll try to measure them as soon as possible and I'll just PM you if I have the measurements already.
Thanks
