I have noticed that different company's have much different PTS's for their shafts. Just wondering if say a 2.5" would be a more flexible tip than a 4" even though they both spec out at a mid/low bend and a soft tip?

Stag, If you're talking about specific shafts on the market, look up their trimming instructions and that should tell you alot about the shaft. You may be able to alter the characteristics of the 4" PTS shaft by "tip trimming" it, while the 2.5" can definitely only be "butt trimmed".

I am hoping to open a club repair shop when I retire (hopefully in March or before). This would be a great source of info for me until I can get to the Maltby or Golfsmith school.

983 re-shaft

983 takes a .335 tip shaft.
Not an easy job if it is your first re-shaft attempt
also be careful on flex selection....the 983 takes about 3.5" of tip for the bore thru hosel and will make the shaft play about 1 flex more stiff.
pulling the old shaft can be tricky....very easy to burn the paint on the hosel if you are not careful.
you might be better off bringing it to a reputable repair shop to insure a good looking repair.
shafts can cost from $15 -$100 depending on quality and specs. ie weight, torque, and brand
shafts installed at a shop will probably start at around $30 installed for the least expensive and can go up to over $200 plus grip

Yes, I would be interested. I just put together my first set of irons. I read a book by Tom Wishon. I haven't tried them yet, snow.
