Reshafted my R7 HT, now I have a ?

I went to Golf Galaxy and told the instructor/fitter that I wanted to re-shaft my R7 HT. I like a high launch, and I like control over distance. I'm taking lessons there also, so he had just finished tweaking my swing for a 1/2 hour. He recommended a Grafalloy Blue Pro Launch 65S. This would be replacing the M.A.S. 55R in there. My SS was about 90mph. My question for all the shaft experts is two fold: did I make the right decision? why are the words/graphics of the shaft now pointing to the ground instead of face up at me? Does this have to do with the spine?

Thanks

it has everything to do with the spine. Your clubfitter just did you a first class job, and probably didn't charge you the extra $10.00 that most do for that.

Thanks. I've never had a club fitted/re-shafted before, so I'm new to this. He is a great instructor also, so I'm happy to be dealing with him.

Haven't played a round yet (ground frozen in Green Bay), but I'm happy with the range performance. It replaced my 380cc GBII. Playing with the weights does work with good swings. Nice length (not a huge difference though from other drivers for me). I didn't buy it for length though. My goal is to spend more time in the short stuff. I had a fade (taking lessons is also helping get rid of this), so I lost distance and was always "just off" the fairway. I'll post a review this week of the new shaft and this head when I get to the range.

If you want a hight launch the Pro Launch is your shaft. Your club guy did you right.

I thought with a swing speed of 90mph you would want to go with a Reg flex not a stiff? wondering cause I am getting my Ignite re-shafted this week and the fitter told me cause my swing speed is 95mph that i would need reg flex that stiff would actually make me slice more than I am already. He said stiff flex is for swings speeds 100-105 mph what do you guys think? ForgedRbest what does spine mean is there anything I should ask the clu fitter to do when he re-shafts my Ignite.

I think it also depends on the type of shaft. I've heard the pro-launch is a little softer flex than the lable (ie stiff is more like a firm). I was also pretty shocked when he recommended a stiff for me. He also said with the swing improvements that he is making with me that my ss will go up a little.

Pokey is right....it depends on the shaft. One shaft’s stiff is another shaft’s Reg. What the fitter should have said is the torque will dictate rather the ball will go left or right and he is assuming a stiff shaft means a low torque. If you have a higher torque...say 3.5 to 4.0 the ball will go left despite what the flex is because a higher torque shaft will close the clubface easier then a low torque shaft assuming you right handed. If you left handed the ball will go right..….bottom line is a higher torque shaft will help close a club face regardless of the shaft flex. If you hook the ball a lower torque is what you want because a higher torque shaft will make a hook even worse.

We actually spent a lot of time talking about tourqe rather than flex (thanks for reminding me). The torque rating is 2.8. With my tendency to fade/slice, and desire to draw, he thought this would work out well for me.

Pokey let me know how you make out with the Pro-Launch 65, I just sent my driver out aswell and was going to get that shaft, but with my pretty bad slice I went with a higher torque rate. The prolaunch is nice gets the ball up and for the price $52 its a good deal. I went with the aldila NVS 55 with a 4.4 torque rating I hope it works out for me casue it wasnt cheap. I also had my shaft cut down a little to 44' The fitter said I would get more control and probably not lose any distance. I went with the Reg flex my average swing speed was 85-90mph so he said to go with the reg cause the stiff might cause me to slice the ball a bit more.. good luck with it

so a high torque is a low number, like 1 or 2. and a low torque is a high number, like 4 or 5?

High number (ie 4) = increased torque and supposed to better for a slicer (more torque will help close the face)
Low torque (ie 2.8 on my pro launch 65) = less twisting and "more control"

That is what I think the whole torque thing is about. Any one feel free to correct/confuse me more.
