hey JC, i think I'm very similar to you in our swing speeds, relative newness to the game, and maybe even build/age. Im also looking for a new driver with an upgraded shaft, and have been looking around for a R5 or something else (R5 seems to be one of the best deals). I've seen R5's with 757 shafts on ebay get sold for $268 (well, not sold, but the reserve price was 268 and no one bought it from the seller, proshopwarehouse). Its probably harder to find a club for you since youre left handed...

From what everyone's saying on here, I think im gonna try to go with a 652. I see a lot of 757's on ebay and forums, and I agree with Scott when he says that its probably because a lot of ppl buy it, try it, and then find out they dont have the swing to load it.
Good luck looking around though.

I bought an R5 w/the 757 stiff from Golf Mart without hitting it first and ended up returning it the next week. I think the 652 would have been a better choice.

yea thats what im afraid of also...just hard to pass up a deal on ebay for a left handed player...the only reason im still considering it b/c i know i cant handle the stiff flex 757 but they have the reg flex 757 and so i was wondering if anyone has hit both the 652 stiff and the 757 reg and what the noticeable differences are...

that's a good question. I'm sure I would have been better off getting the 757 in a regular flex.

Jcfuncklive......You would probably be able to load a Reg better and Noobie was right you could tip it if you did not like the flex. The down side is that a Reg is harder to sell if you want to get a different shaft because most people play a stiff. However don't let that stop you from buying a stiff. You can always pull the shaft and sell it on EBay and get your 652 if the 757 doesn't work out. You may want to buy the R5 if it is a lefty because they can be harder to find and just pull and sell the shaft if the 757 doesn't work out. You can usually get about $100.00 for a pulled "new" Speeder on EBay. The might ease some of the pain if the 757 doesn't work out and you get the 652.

I love the 652. However there is the new Fujikura ZCOM is out now and the Fuji SIX is too. Neither are Speeders but they are very, very good shafts. They also cost as much as a Speeder. The only bad thing about them is that they can be hard to find at a pro shop to try to hit and test them...at least where I live. If you have a pro shop near by that carries Fujikura shafts you could be in luck. Bottom line is that I think that the 652 would be a better shaft for you. However you can always do what I mentioned above.

One last question from me, it's not regarding Fuji shafts. For bore through, do fairway woods and irons come bore through also?

So do they play a lot stiffer then? I have X-14's that have S300 in them, and they play too stiff for me. Maybe because they are bore through. I'm also thinking of getting a 7 wood cally (older war bird model) in firm flex. Would it play to a stiff flex or a x-stiff flex?

i think i've decided on the R5 9.5* w/ Speeder 757 in REG flex....since the stiff is harder to load and harder to get up in the air....i figured i'd go down in degree of loft from 10.5 to 9.5 and get a reg flex speeder....Oof...hope it all works out...

Nice, JC. good luck with your club. Like Scott said earlier, you could always sell the 757 and get a 652 if it doesnt work out.

The S300 is the gold standard stiff shaft. In a bore-thru it will play stiffer....depending on hosel lenght it will play a half to a whole flex stiffer. The 7 wood probably has a shorter bore-thru hosel then a dirver so the flex will be a tad different. Rule of thumb still applys a half to whole flex stiffer.

JC I think that you made a good choice for the money. If the shaft doesn't work out you can always sell it and get the 652. The R5 is a good club and it is easy to re-shaft.

Hey Scott,
I've been searching Ebay for an R5 with the Fujikura 652 but no luck. In fact, I only found two 652's on Ebay (sold by themselves). How long did you look before you found yours?

It took me a few weeks to find one. I was looking just for the shaft at first and had made my mind up to just buy the shaft and then find a cheaper R5 and put the shaft in it. I was on EBay one day and found mine. The auction price was going up fast on it but it had a "buy it now" option and I bought it on the spot. Keep looking and you will find one. If you don't want to wait you can get the shaft and then get a R5 and match the two. It may cost a little more but an R5 with a stock shaft or steel shaft are cheap on ebay.

You can also look for the 553 Speeder...it is just the same as the 652 just a little lighter and slightly less torque. The 652 weights 66gm torque 3.7 and the 553 is 60gm, torque 3.4 for a stiff shaft. Also the 661 is identical to the 652. Fujikura just changed the name of the 661 to 652 for some reason. You can still find 661's out there on ebay too.
