Bore thru clubs

How much stiffer do Bore thru irons, fairway woods, and drivers play?

I was told I was a stiff flex, but my hand me down X-14's with S300 shafts are really hard to hit. Maybe its because they are bore through?

I'm also thinking of getting a 7 wood cally (older warbird model) in firm flex. Would it play to a stiff flex or a x-stiff flex?

Thanks in advance

My clubmaker told me everytime he installs a shaft on the 983 heads it comes out about 1 flex rating higher - maybe a tad less. If your driver swing is 95 mph than S300 is too stiff IMO. Mine is around 95-100 and I have trouble hitting S300 as well but then again I dont like swing my irons aggressively.

not sure about the shafts you mentioned, but for info. i play a 983K ys-6 stiff(bore through) and it's great for me. I tried the reg. shaft in the same club but i lost distance, just not firm enough. But in my irons, mizuno comp ez, i have the dynalite gold reg. which is just right for my swing. My swing speed varies from 90 to 95(driver) with a moderate tempo. Hope this helps.

Noobie is right...all shafts are a little different in how their flex is rated but a bore-thru will play a half to full flex more then a non-bore thru shaft.

Any one know why the bore through hozel would make the shaft play stiffer?

Whats interesting about a shaft in any type of bore is the BBGM...or the bottom-bore to ground measurement. As this number approaches zero, the shaft will play stiffer and stiffer. Obviously for bore-through this number is zero. And blind bores will play slightly stiffer than standard bores. Hosel depth is not interesting, only the BBGM. In other words, the higher the BBGM, the less the shaft is in the head in respect to the COG, making it less stable, or in this case, stiff.
