Question Reshafting 8 iron

Okay, about 2 months ago, I was hitting some birdie balls with my 8 iron. I wasn't hitting the ball too good, so I threw my club down in frustration. It was very cold (around freezing) and the shaft snapped. Since I don't really use my 3 iron at all, would it be okay to reshaft my 8 iron with my 3 iron shaft? I would have the shaft cut down to 8 iron length?

You are better off just reshafting the 8 iron. A shaft is less than 10 bucks depending on what kind of shaft you want. You are still gonna have to pay to get it cut and reshafted so why waste your 3 iron for 10 bucks. Just my opinion. And next time just throw your 3 iron

As far as I understand it, putting a 3 iron shaft on ur 8 iron would make it a lot softer than usual. Sometimes people do what's called softstepping, taking out 3I shaft and putting it in 4I and so on if they want to play a little softer. Going from 3 to 8 is kinda extreme. Iron shafts are cheap so it's probably better to put a new shaft.

Noobie is right....from a 3 to a 8 would be super soft steping to the extreme. And when you cut it down that much the swing weight will be all messed up.

It is ok to take your shaft out of your 3 iron for your 8 iron, as long as you take 2 1/2 inches off the tip end, and then butt trip to correct length.........it should be pretty close to the correct length after the 21/2 off the tip anyway.....when we cut shafts, there is a difference of a 1/2 inch from 3 to 9, then the 9-Pw, and SW are the same off the tip, you just butt cut. this should help you, I am a club builder

I just bought a Sand Wedge head to match the set of iron components I bought. If you buy a single shaft, they send you a 1-iron shaft, regardless of the head it is going in, and you cut it to desired length.

I probably don't have the club building experience of Millsie, but I think you just trim the butt (where the grip goes) end.
