I know some people are going to laugh at this question...but....has anybody tried to change the weights in the R5? I know TM say the weights are fixed but I just wonder if anybody has tried anyway.
I purchased an R5 Draw but possibly should have gotten a neutral.
Some of the TM drivers(non r7) have removable weights cartridges. I don't believe those actually change the shape of the ball trajectories but are meant for swingweight changes.
The r5 draw is a different head then the r5 N. The D has a larger bulge in the rear of the club head to move the center of gravity even further back then in the N. Changing the screws would not make a difference even if you could do it. If you look at both club heads side by side you will see the difference. And no laughing here....Lord knows that I have asked a ton of stupid questions and I still suffer from a foot in mouth disorder.
I believe both the N and the D have closed faces but what makes the D a better driver for a draw is that its face is even more closed. Maybe you could get the face bent a little more open? Or you could add lead tape.
Scott1s is right about the shaft. The "D" has a lighter (55g) shaft with a soft tip and higher torque. The "N" has a 65g shaft, firm tip and lower torque. I think these shaft differences have more of an effect on the ball flight than the head differences.
agreed on both acounts, but this also shows why the various clubs should be demo'd before purchase....I would try putting some lead tape, which you can find at most any golf shop, towards the far end of the head away from the shaft....
I read a really interesting internet post about a guy who did it, and it turned out to be a complete fiasco, and was a very difficult process. My $.02 is to not touch 'em.
Yes I'm aware of the differences in the heads of the 2 R5s and I was pretty sure that moving the weights would not be possible....just thought I'd ask anyway.
I will investigate the shaft torque issue though. However the problem I will have here is the same as what I had when I bought the club. I live in regional Australia....we dont have the luxury of demo days or golf shops with swing analysis machines or demo clubs set up with all different shaft configurations etc...add to that Im a lefty making it very hard to experiment with different clubs, lofts and shafts.
that certainly makes it a bit more difficult for you. Maybe you can schedule a fitting with a pro? He should be able to make a good assesment after watching your swing as to what type of shaft to fit you with.
