Club Refinishing

I have a Titleist Oil Can putter that has some surface rust on it. I am wondering if anyone has any recomendations on getting it refinished. I think Titleist will do it but am thinking that may be expensive.

I've never used these folks, but I believe they all do putter refinishing.

www.scottycameron.com is supposed to be offering restoration services soon - it has been soon for for some time - or go through an authorized Titleist dealer to send it in for refinishing. I believe it goes to the same place regardless.

I know on my steel shafts, I have used chrome cleaner to remove rust. You can also use a real fine steel wool, then use car wax. Not sure what an "oil can" type putter is, or where the rust is, but maybe this info will help.

Be careful with this as the weight may change slightly and the face is milled which will reduce the mill marks. I did steel wool an old Bullseye putter of my dad's. Looked great removing the old patina to show the gleaming brass.

If were me I would send to Titleist. The charge is actually pretty cheap considering what you get. I sent off a pro platinum a few years back and for $65.00 U.S. I got the head totally re-finished, a new shaft, new grip, and a new headcover. The headcover alone is like $25.00 U.S. on the Scotty Cameron website. When it arrived from Titleist I could not believe that it was my old putter. Go with Titleist you won't be disappointed.

The price has gone up a bit in the last couple of years, macdaddy. It looks like ScottyCameron.com is finally going to start accepting refinish orders from the general public again on April 1st (you had to be a Club Cameron member before) though, with that date maybe it's just a joke.

According to their restoration page (http://www.scottycameron.com/restoration/default.asp) a standard restoration will cost $110 for all models except Terrylium TEI3 models which will cost $175 (of course, I'm thinking about getting my TEI3 Newport redone ... I never get away cheap).

The restoration includes:
-original finish
-new shaft
-new shaft band
-standard grip
-standard headcover
-paint fill
-loft/lie check

You can also add alterations from the Cameron custom shop for somewhat less than what they would cost without the restoration.

I'm thinking about getting my Futura refinished in matte black. The two are 3x blackoxideservice.com or customclubcoatings.com(powdercoat) ($40). Anyone done this? How does this affect the milled face?

I used to oil my Tei3 pretty regularly when I first got it, but lately just wipe it off every round, and once in a while apply some paste wax to it. It's never rusted, but does show some wear. I'm not sure I'd pay $175 for a refinishing, I might just look at an auction site for one in better condition.
