Whats up guys, I was watching whats in the bag the other day and they were talking about drivers. They talked about if you have a problem with slicing that you should try to add some lead tape to the heel of the driver and it would help a bit. I am not to familiar with lead tape , just wondering if anybody has tried it? And if you have where do you actually add the tape and how much also where is the best place to get it. I currently have the Nike Ignite 410cc 10.5 it has a D3 swing weight. thanks guys
I've added 3 -2inch 3/4" strips to my 975F, purely to make it heavier. I guess thats +3 swing weights as 28" of tape = 1 ounce/28gms measured at the PO. 2gms/2 inches = +1 SW. I used the 2 openings on the sole of the 975F - I could probably add another 6 inches of tape if I wanted- not counting the back of the club. The club head feels heavier when I swing, I'll try to actually hit some balls with it later this week.
It will take much more than a couple of strips of tape to influence ball flight. Check out one of the fitting and repair articles at www.tourgolfproducts.com for full details of lead tape and ball flight.
I hit my 3 wood yesterday after slapping on some lead tape. Club felt much better- heavier and more in control. I already cut down the shaft a 1/2" and regripped. I can tell I lost some distance, but it has added more confidence and control.
Experimenting with lead tape is fun but it does make the shaft play softer. When I first shortened my driver I had trouble adjusting so I had to put lead tape. But now I actually like it with the lower swingweight. Btw, I had about 8-10 grams of leadtape on the sole of my driver and I didn't notice an appreciable difference in the ball flight.
Yeah I am gonna play with some lead tape myself, I am switching to a new Driver I am gonna go with the Ignite 460cc 10.5 with the Aldila NV 65-R in it. The 410cc is not that forgiving for me, and the Aldila NVS is a great shaft but now that I am taking lessons and my driving is getting better I pop up the ball so much I think i am loosing distance....
The 460 is more forgiving but it's also has a closed face while the 410 is square (or so the Nike rep told me). If you fight with a slice, the 460 might help you in that regard as well.
Hey scotts I guess your back... How was your trip. Yeah i would have to but a **** load of lead tape to manipulate ball flight. But I figured i would try a bit around the heel and see what it does for me..

When you cut off the 1/2" of shaft you lost a couple of swingweights. Adding the lead tape restored those swingweights.
LOS 11 the trip back was great. My year in Iraq was another story. I will have to tell you about it some time. However back to the tape....Forged is right and so are you. It takes a wad of tape to change ball flight.
