Hi guys.
I have a few questions about bending forged irons that I hope you guys can answer.
I know that the benefit of buying forged irons are that you can bend them according to your specs.
My question is how much can you bend? There was a previous post by ForgedRBest that you can safely bend them up to 6 degrees for the better brands.
Will too much bending or bending too often weaken the irons?
I can get my hands on a set of Titleist Forged Irons that are 1.5 upright and I would like to bend them back to their standard lie. Would this be okay?
I cant answer all your questions, But yes you can definitely bend the Titleist back to standard. The usuall cost to bend irons is about $5-$7 per iron. As far as how much bending not sure but if RForged said 6* he is probably right. As far as weakening the iron you would probably have to do alot of bending back and fourth....... Forged irons are just awesome, I am so happy I bought my new set of Nike forged they feel so much better than my old set.. They rock...
I agree with you. I've been hitting with my friend's clubs at the range, the same Titleist I'm planning to get and the feel was what made me decide to change.
You know what, if someone can answer this it would be great...
Do I really need to bend the lie angle back 1.5 degrees flat?
Does it make a big difference? Should I get it first and try to hit it before bending them back to standard?
No prob bro..I would definitley get fitted first to see what you need. I got fitted at golfsmith for these new Nike Pro Combo Forged and I was about 1* upright.. The fitter said since I am fairly new to golf I am taking lessons to leave them standard for right now it could be swing issues.... And that after this season to get fitted if i still need the 1* upright I will get them bent.. I would not just leave them at 1.5* if you dont need it. I would buy them if they are a good price and you want them but get fitted at a golfstore and see what lie angle you really are before you use these.. If you dont need 1.5* that can make a world of differnce in the way you are gonna hit the ball with these irons.. Just my .02 good luck

If i was you i would contact Titliest and tell them your problem about the clubs you have just purchased the lie is 1.5 out i'm sure they would do this for a very reasonable price or you may do them free of charge hope this has helped....

Not if the set is used. They arent gonna bend them back for free. Titleist is good but not that good.. Plus you would have to ship them out and pay for return.. Better off going to like a golfsmith store they charge $5 per iron.
The 1.5 is no problem. Forging tend to get out of adjustment through normal play; having them checked each year is a good idea - as is being fitted prior to bending. 6 degrees was mentioned as a limit - that's a good bit - often the soft carbon steel of the head will bend that much but the hard chrome plating will crack when bending that much. 2-3 is a more reasonable amount to bend to ensure the chrome will not crach.
Hey guys that was a typo. 5 degrees is the safe maximum, but as Jeff said, you can crack the chrome around the hossel. I have gone this far with sets that I plan to restore, but the bending is done before I send them off to be rechromed.
Dont worry guys.. i wont bend them 6 degrees... just wanna get them back to standard (thats if I get fitted for standard) I have never been fitted but have been playing with standard clubs all these while.
Thanks guys. I will go ahead and buy the used Titleist with the 1.5 degree upright lie. Hit some balls at the range to see how I like it and maybe visit a proshot to get fitted. Thanks for your help.
Will let you guys know when I get the clubs and the progress im making.
