How Groovey are you?

I'm sure there have been previous posts on this subject before, but is it possible and when is it necessary to regroove or replace your irons just from plain wear and tear ( no abuse), especially the wedges?

When the edges of the grooves are no longer sharp but rounded in appearence, and you can feel a difference with your fingers from the other non-worn area of the club, it is time to re-groove or replace.

I don't know about "cast" clubs, but a friend of mine re-grooves is forged irons once or twice per year.

I think some grooves are round, and some square, so if you buy a grooving tool, be sure to get the right one for your clubs.

FYI There is no such thing as "round" grooves and "square" grooves were banned as a result of a titanic court battle between PING and the PGA Tour. :nodsmiley

Today's clubs must have V, U, or flat bottomed U shaped grooves that meet the strict specifications detailed in Appendix II of the USGA Rules of Golf.

A good regrooving tool will work on cast clubs too but it takes a little more elbow grease!
